U12s Win Crumlin Shield

Yesterday our U12s took part in the Crumlin Utd tournament. They were drawn in a very competitive group against Cliftonville, Hillsborough Boys and the hosts Crumlin Utd.

First up Hillsborough Boys in a very exciting game which they won 1-0 with a late finish, but off to a good start. Next up Cliftonville, Lurgan dominated this one losing from a goal very much against the run of play. The guys very much the better side. The last group game saw a very competitive 0-0 against the tournament hosts Crumlin Utd.

Group stage over and into the shield semi final against Belfast Celtic. A very comfortable 2-0 win in this one with some super football played by Town. This set up the final against fellow group stage opponents Hillsborough Boys. Again Lurgan were very much the better side creating a few very good chances which they just couldn’t finish off. A super save by Oli in the very last minute ensured that they didn’t lose to a sucker punch.

Would they regret missing those earlier chances? 0-0 and on to the dreaded penalty shootout. After 3 penalties the teams were all square and into sudden death. Up stepped Owen who struck his penalty well but the keeper gets a hand to it, the ball spins over the line, advantage Lurgan and the blood pressure of parents and coaches through the roof. But Hillsborough pull their penalty wide and Lurgan Town win the shield!!

A fabulous way to end the season with a trophy. The most rewarding thing though was the smiles on all the faces at the end. A big well done and thank you to Crumlin Utd for hosting us.
And a massive well done to our U12s. Champions !!!
