U14s: Banbridge Town Juniors 3 – 3 Lurgan Town

Lurgan Town travelled to Cheney Park on Saturday morning to face Banbridge Town for the 1st time this season.

Lurgan started brightly and forced early corners and saves from the home keeper. Fifteen minutes into the 1st half and a corner from Corey Hylands from the right was met by a stooping header from Elias O’Neil. From 5 yards out O’Neil made no mistake.

Injury to centre midfielder Alex Johnston forced Lurgan Town into an early change. The change of personnel helped Banbridge get a foothold in the game and they created half chances and pressure for the next 10 minutes. A mistake in the Lurgan back line gifted the Banbridge striker an equaliser. The no. 9 finished well past the approaching Lurgan keeper.

Lurgan Town restored their lead 5 minutes before half time. A good through ball from midfielder Caleb Hawthorn was controlled by Corey Hylands. The striker continued his run of good form by holding off the centre back and rounded the keeper at pace before slotting home from a tight angle.

Half Time
Banbridge 1 – 2 Lurgan Town

Lurgan pressed the self destruction button immediately after the restart. A mix up again in the Lurgan defence between Matthew Little and Caleb Hawthorne from the 2nd half kick-off gifted Banbridge the equaliser 30 seconds into the 2nd half. Worse was to follow from Lurgan Town two minutes later. The Banbridge player running unchallenged into the box and scoring from 12 yards out. A shell shocked Lurgan Town found themselves 3 – 2 down with 30 minutes still to play.

Lurgan regrouped and battled back into the contest. Several good corners from Ben Wells and Corey Hylands forced a scramble in the Banbridge defence, but Lurgan couldn’t find the equaliser.

With 8 minutes remaining Eran Loughran drove into the penalty box and was brought down by the advancing Banbridge keeper. The Referee pointed to the spot immediately. Captain Elias O’Neil placed the ball on the spot and buried the penalty into the bottom right corner for his 2nd goal of the game.

Lurgan pushed for a late winner but minutes later the Referee blew for full-time.

A disappointing performance and result for Lurgan Town u14’s. Next up Dungannon Colts.
