Very Close Derby Game

Lurgan 05’s played Craigavon City at Lurgan in the League on Saturday 15th January 2022. Lurgan almost took the lead inside 5 minutes when Ryan Lee Brown brilliantly took the ball past a Craigavon City defender and flicked the ball over the goalkeeper but the Craigavon City defender made a terrific clearance. A fantastic effort that deserved a goal. Lurgan came very close to opening the scoring when Liam Campbell put Daniel Patterson through. Daniel hit the ball almost perfectly past the keeper but his effort struck the post.

At the other end, Jake Byers made an excellent tackle to deny Craigavon City a clear opening on goal. Both teams were playing good football in an extremely competitive, tight and exciting game but there were no goals to show for either side at half time. Craigavon City almost had a clear chance to score in the second half but Toby Haire made a fantastic tackle to clear the danger. Jake Agnew made a very good save to keep Craigavon City out on another occasion and Aidan Quinn made a vital tackle also as Craigavon pressed for a goal.

With little time left, Craigavon City finally broke the deadlock, scoring from a corner. It was a cruel blow for Lurgan who did not deserve to lose today but the game ended 1-0 to Craigavon City. Lurgan’s four defenders played brilliantly today – Aidan, Ben, Jake B and Toby were terrific. Daniel Graham also had an excellent game in midfield. The whole team can be very proud of themselves. On another day they will be rewarded with a win for such a performance.
