Hard Fought Win

Lurgan Town U14s took on Ballyvea at Lurgan Town Arena on Saturday morning. This was the 1st match in the newly formed Premiership section so it was important for the U14’s to get off to a winning start.

Lurgan started brightly and dominated all areas of the game in the 1st half. Lurgan won 3 early corners and scored from one of these. Corey Hylands scoring a close range tap in, from a good Elias O’Neil corner.

Good combination play down Lurgan’s right resulted in O’Neil getting a tap in at the back post after a fine cross from Rhys McCreanor.

Lurgan Town were denied an obvious penalty at the end of the 1st half. The Ballyvea keeper rushing off his line and taking down Corey Hylands. The referee waved away all appeals. A poor decision by the referee.

Half Time – Lurgan Town 2 v Ballyvea 0

Lurgan Town made three changes at half time. Playing against a strong wind Lurgan quickly found themselves drawn into a battle. Ballyvea showing good commitment and desire dominated midfield, although created limited chances.

Midway through the 2nd half Ballyvea scored. Their striker getting room down the left channel and calmly slotting past the outrushing Lurgan keeper. Injuries to Caleb Thompson & Aaron Barret brought more changes. Rhys McCreanor had a good goal ruled out for offside. Those watching all agreed that the striker was a yard onside. Again, another poor decision by the referee.
Jack Hollis made a good save with 5 minutes to go but Lurgan Town saw out the remainder of the match to take 3 points.

A difficult match next week away to Mountjoy for the U14’s.
