Saturday seen the long awaited return to league action for the Town 07 team and with it being a local derby the boys were fully up for it.
The game started with both teams trying to suss each other out with the deadlock being broke on the 6th minute with Davison driving in from the left and firing hard and low into the bottom corner. Town pushed on and Krol looking lively on the right was a handful for the left back and got his reward on the 14min when he found himself in space to drive in Town’s second. 2 minutes later Krol again proving a handful put in a cross begging to be headed in and McCann making his debut did just that 3-0.
At this point the Portadown lads heads seemed to go down and Town pushed on with Gorman latching onto a cross from Krol again and skilfully flicking over the defender before slotting home. With no sign of Town letting up Davison picked up the ball on the half way line and drove past the full back before cutting inside and calmly finishing past the helpless goalkeeper. Gorman was then brought down in the box and missed the resulting penalty but McCann was on hand to score the rebound.
Halftime seen the introduction of Hutchinson, Sloane, Dillon, Dobrowolski and Johnston making his debut. Portadown started with a bit of urgency and went at Town but the defence stood strong and kept them at bay. After seeing off a strong start from Portadown Dillon got himself on the scoresheet poking home from a Dobrowolski cross. Dobrowolski then got himself on the scoresheet from a fine corner from Sloane which he headed home superbly on 60 minutes. Davison got his hattrick when the ball fell kindly to him on the edge of the box. The last 10 minutes saw Dillon get his 2nd and Thornbury get a well deserved goal after a few attempts but a special mention to Johnston scoring the goal of the game on his debut from 30 yards leaving any keeper helpless.
Final Score – Lurgan Town 12-0 Portadown
