Convincing Win In League Cup

Lurgan Town Predators 05 final match in the league cup was against Brookvale at Gordan Playing fields. The League table was very tight with Lurgan, Armagh City, Banbridge Rangers Swifts all sitting with the same points going into the last game. Only a win and 4 clear goals would take the Lurgan side into the knock out stages of the League Cup. With only 2 mins on the clock Lurgan Town Predators opened the scoring. Good one touch football from Calum Carson and Liam Campbell played in Daniel Patterson whos shot was saved by the Brookvale keeper but Ryan Lee Brown was in hand to make it 1 -0. Brookvale had the wind in the first half and had a long range effort but Jake Agnew was up to the task. Chances were coming thick and fast. From a free kick Liam Campbell teed up James Kelly who shot went just wide. Daniel nearly got on the score sheet but his header went just wide. Just before half time Toby Haire and Jack Mullins came close with efforts from 25 yards.

In the first 10 mins of the second half both teams cancelled each other out. In the 41 min the goal of the day was scored by Patterson who struck an unstopable volley from 25 yards into the right hand corner of the net to make it 2-0. The next goal came from Toby Haire who hit a shot/clearance over the Brookvale keeper to open his account for the year. In the final min of the game Patterson’s shot was parried to Jack Mullins who made no mistake to make the final score 4-0. Special mention must go to the Lurgan Town back four who made it two clean sheets in two games. Next up is Banbridge Rangers in the quarter final next weekend.
