On Wednesday evening, Lurgan Town Ladies played their last home game of the shortened 2020 NIWFA season, against Killen Rangers Ladies. The two sides have had some close matches before, and this was to prove no different.
The away side took the lead midway through the first half and then extended their lead after an hour to make it 0-2. But Lurgan struck back within minutes, when hard-working Roisin Bolger got on the end of a cross from Ellie McBride, to make it 1-2. The home side dominated possession, passed the ball around well and pressed for an equaliser, but were unable to trouble the Killen keeper. Lurgan were unlucky to concede a third goal on a counterattack, when injured defender Kirsty Treanor played their striker onside. So, once again, the ladies were left with a scoreline that did not reflect their possession, determination and effort.
Next up – a third round IFA Cup tie against either Belfast Swifts or Bangor Ladies on Friday 16 October (at a venue to be arranged by IFA), closely followed by their last league match, away to St James Swifts on Sunday 18 October.
