Ladies Trounce Carnmoney

The Ladies welcomed a strong Carnmoney team to The Arena for match day 5 of the NIWFA Championship season. With the cameras trained on the game from Colin Hopkins and his NIWFA TV team, a great game was expected between 2nd v 3rd going head to head. The home team took command of a frantic and fast paced opening period with a well taken goal from Kerry Taggart in the 4th minute. Her cross – come shot caused confusion in the Carnmoney box and the in-swinging ball from the right nestled in the top corner as the defence watched on.

That goal did little to settle the pace and with KT bursting through onto a lofted cross, the Carnmoney defence was penalised for a high foot that connected with KT’s nose in the 15th min. Captain Tracy Orr stepped up and slotted home the resulting spot kick to double the lead. In the 17th min Elisha Donnelly timed her run to perfection, beat the offside trap and raced through on goal, slotting the ball past the on-rushing keeper and into the corner of the net.

With the 3 goal advantage, the game lost some of its pace and an even 20 minutes followed with chances at both ends. Wendy Bailie was unlucky not to score when her shot went agonisingly wide, as did shots from Leanne Domican, KT & Elisha. In the 41st min Leanne found herself in the box unmarked and made no mistake when the ball fell to her feet, side-stepping the oncoming defender, shifting the ball and smashing it into the roof of the net.

HT – Lurgan Town 4 – 0 Carnmoney

The second half started just as the first did with a fast and frantic pace being set. A volley of early shots rained in on the Carnmoney goal in quick succession. The Carnmoney keeper’s handling was never in question and these were dealt with, with apparent ease. Elisha was starting to find her feet again and it wasn’t long before she sprung the off side trap and coolly slotted home into the far corner from a tight angle in the 52nd minute. A carbon copy was soon to follow and unfortunately for the Carnmoney defence, a similar fate awaited as Elisha again slotted home to get her hat trick on 66 minutes.

Carnmoney got themselves a free kick just outside the area and converted their chance with a precision shot beating the keeper and earning Carnmoney a consolation goal in the 73rd minute. Elisha completed the scoring and executed a well worked free flowing move ending up with the ball in the net in the 78th minute with a well taken 4th for herself.
