Thoroughly Deserved Win

Lurgan Town Under 14 Colts took on Warrenpoint Town in the Lisburn League at Dromore on Saturday 17th November.

Warrenpoint took the lead with a long range shot but Lurgan equalised when Kian Moran was fouled when he jinked past a defender and was taken down. Adam Banks coolly slotted home into the keeper’s bottom left corner.

Kian put Caolan Ritchie through the middle but he hit shot went past the keeper’s left post.

Lurgan took the lead when Liam Campbell made a brilliant run across the box and put through a perfectly weighted pass to Joey McDonald, coming in from the right hand side. Joey hit a beautiful shot into the far corner past the keeper’s right hand to make it 2-1 at half time.

Joey then bravely challenged the keeper in a 50-50 from a Jack O’Brien cross, won the ball and stabbed the ball home to make it 3-1.

Warrenpoint scored from a corner to make it 3-2.

Liam Campbell then had a shot cleared that was heading goalward from a corner scramble before Lurgan scored a fourth when Sam Truesdale crossed on the bye line to Ryan Rafferty who stabbed the ball home.

Warrenpoint pulled another goal back to make it 4-3 but Lurgan ran out well deserved winners.

It was a brilliant performance by Lurgan. Adam Banks and Jake Byers were outstanding in centre defence and the full backs – Ryan and Toby – had excellent games too.

The midfield also played really well and battled for everything- Joey, the 2 Jacks, Kian and Liam.

With some good saves and the forwards playing their part, it was very much a strong whole team performance.

It was a thoroughly deserved win by a great bunch of boys who have and who showed a lot of character and backbone after a difficult spell and run of matches. Well done to the boys and the coaches!
