Lurgan Town u15’s got back to winning ways today, the performances at the moment aren’t anywhere near where we would like them to be but the boys dug out a win and another important 3 points. It was a scrappy and frustrating game on a tight pitch with the Town midfield struggling to put their mark on the game. Midway looked the most threatening in the early stages without creating anything really to worry the Town keeper. It was Lurgan though that opened the scoring coming to the end of the first half when Ronan Watkins caught a ball on the half valley and put it across the net into the far side of the goal.
The second half started a bit brighter for the Lurgan lads who found their control on the ball much better and tried to find space in behind the Midway back line but Midway held their shape and discipline well and almost got their rewards but for the Lurgan keeper James Hamilton who needed to be on his toes to pull off a couple of important stops to keep Town in the lead. Town just couldn’t find that breakthrough needed to stretch their lead and were punished with only 10 minutes to go when a stray pass found a Midway striker who with a bit of work still to do was able to find the back of the Town net to bring the game level going into the final stages of the game. Town stepped up their game and pressed further up the pitch in an effort to regain their lead and it paid off when just before the end Spencer Young was put through on goal and made no mistake taking his tally to 3 goals in 2 games. The Town bench were relieved to hear the final whistle, it has been a tough November with the boys hitting a dip in form, so to get this game over the line with 3 points in the bag was important.
Hopefully the boys can regain a bit of the early season momentum and kick on again from this important win. Next week Town have a break from league action and travel to Belfast on NIBFA Cup action to play a very strong Shamrock side who are currently in a great run of form in the South Belfast League.
