A Game Of Two Halves

Lurgan Town U14s Lisburn League team took on Hillsboroigg boys on sat morning at the Barbour & lost 3 – 2 in a game of two halves.

The 1st half belonged to Hillsborough when they scored 3 goals in a 15 min spell with 3 long range shots. With Town playing 3 at the back they were too open down the wings & that allowed Hillsborough time on the ball. To be fair to the Town boys they rallied just before half time & when Charlie’s nice pass found Patryk on the edge of the 18 yard box he made no mistake lashing a great shot into the top right corner of the Hillsbro net. The 1st half ended 3 – 1 to Hillsborough.

Town came out for the 2nd half fired up & with a few subs & a change of formation they were on top from the off. With Diarmuid in nets now & a back 4 of Luke, Casey, Ethan & Jack the boys were pressing hard to get a goal & it came when Niall put Dylan througg. He held off 2 defenders but shot straight at the Hillsborough keeper but the rebound fell kindly to the feet of Sam who made no mistake from 6 yards out.

With the score now at 3 – 2 to Hillsborough it was game on. Town were now pushing hard for an equaliser & when they won 3 corners in a row it looked like it was on the cards that they would score, but the Hillsborough keeper was in superb form making 2 great saves. First from Jamie & the 2nd from Dylan.

With 10 mins to go the game became very open & was flowing from end to end & with 2 mins to go Town very nearly got the equaliser that their hard fought efforts really deserved when Krisy set Oliver away on run down the left wing & he drilled a hard low cross, across the face of the goal with Daniel & Harry both inches from getting on the end of it. The match finished with Town going down 3 – 2.

Well done boys for a much improved 2nd half performance, better luck next weekend.
