Lurgan Town Under 14 Colts took on Doyle in the Lisburn League at Ballymacoss playing fields on Saturday 22nd September. Doyle took the lead very early on but Lurgan responded quickly with an equaliser when James Green went on a long run down the right wing. James cut in, lifted his head smartly to cross for Liam Campbell who also did brilliantly, calling for the cross and coming to the near post where he slotted the ball home to make it 1-1. However, Doyle took the lead again soon afterwards to make it 2-1.
In the second half of the first 35 minutes, Lurgan were the stronger team. Ryan Rafferty was making some great passes to Liam Campbell and they were doing some terrific work together down the left hand side. Jack O’Brien came closest with a shot into the side netting but the boys couldn’t convert their pressure into a second goal. Doyle then scored again to go into half time 3-1 up.
At the start of the second half, Joey McDonald made some very good runs down the right hand side but there were no clear chances for either side until Doyle made it 4-1. Doyle scored two further goals to make it 6-1. The level of scoreline flattered Doyle some and Lurgan played some very good football going forwards at times but Doyle were definitely the stronger team overall.
For Lurgan, we start again next week. The team have now played the 3 strongest teams in this new league the past 3 weeks, stronger teams than any we faced last year. t will be a challenging season but plenty to look forward to.
