Lurgan Town Lisburn League U14s played Portadown Youth in a local derby in the 1st game of the new season on Saturday morning & came away with a 2 – 1 win.
Wth new manager Alan stokes at the helm & a lot of new faces coming into the squad the Town boys were buzzing to get on to the pitch. The match was pretty even for the 1st 10 mins until Town won a free kick 30 yards out & Harry Cahoon fired in a great shot which the Ports keeper could only parry out to his right to the feet of Niall who squared the ball across goal for Casey Finlay to slot home from close range to make it 1 – 0.
Town’s lead lasted only 5 mins as a long ball over the top caught the defence napping & a Portadown striker nipped in to level things up at 1 – 1. Town then had a couple of corners in the last few minutes of the half with great deliveries on both occasions from Krisy Cassells that saw Patryk Suchonski head just over & Harry Cahoon head wide & that’s how the half ended at 1 – 1.
The 2nd half started with town on the attack & they should have been 2 – 1 up when a cross from Oliver Spratt cause a mass scramble in the box with Krisy Cassells & Sam McGlade both having shots cleared of the line. Town were fired up now & were starting to dominate. Jamie Stokes had a effort when he broke down the right side into the box but fired his shot across the face of the goal & wide. Then Krisy Cassells fired in a 35 yard free kick that rattled the crossbar & then it was Sam McGlades turn to hit a 20 yard shot of the crossbar.
It looked like the winning goal wasn’t going to come but the Town boys give one extra push. With 2 mins to go Dylan Emerson won the ball on the halfway line turned & put Conan Moore away on a run down the right wing. He swung a low cross in along the 18 yard line which Sam McGlade controlled with one touch & fired a dipping shot over the Ports keeper into the roof of the net, making the final score 2 – 1. Well done boys.
