A Word From The Gaffer

Last night we caught up with new 1st team manager Lee Dickson who gave us a few thoughts on his new role at the club…

“I want to thank Lurgan Town, the chairman Nigel Johnston, and the committee for the opportunity to manage this sleeping giant of a football club. I feel very proud and honoured to be leading Lurgan Town in its 30th anniversary year and hopefully it will be one of success.

I have been assisting Chris Kelly with the senior team over the past few years and what a job he has done transforming the senior set up both on and off the pitch. So full credit must go to him for the healthy position he has left the club in and we hope to see him down each week supporting the guys.

This year proves to be an exciting journey for all involved, with exciting new additions to come into the fold, a fresh new coaching set up, in addition to the already successful reserve team management of Steven Beattie and Michael Shilliday; not to mention the wealth of talent on a conveyor belt coming through from our unbelievable youth set up.

I want to welcome Paul Mercer to the 1st team coaching staff. Needing no introduction, he is known throughout Mid Ulster as great player where he won multiple leagues and trophies including the Junior Cup with Hill Street FC, and went on to play for Banbridge Town.

I’ve known Paul from a young age and know what he’s about. I’ve kept a close eye on his work with the junior set up in what has been a superb season for him personally, resulting in him being awarded Lurgan Town Manager of the Year, winning two trophies and having assembled one of the most exciting junior teams seen in recent years at the club. Paul’s enthusiasm from the moment we first talked about this position has been second to none and will no doubt drive the boys and the coaching team on, with winning running through his veins. Welcome on board.

This football club deserves so much more in its trophy cabinet and with the right attitude and commitment from the squad, I have no doubt we will move through the gears and achieve this. The target for the coaching staff and players from the offset will be silverware and promotion. I can’t wait to get started”.

Keep watching for more exciting additions to the squad and coaching staff over the coming weeks.
