Lurgan Town Under 13 Colts took on East Coast Strikers at Barbour Playing Fields, Lisburn on Saturday 21st April in an U13 League Three match.
Adam Banks had a good chance early on with a snap shot – he connected well but the shot went past the post. Soon after Adam headed the ball through the middle and Caolan Ritchie ran onto it. Caolan used his pace, sprinted away from the East Coast defence and kept his head brilliantly to shoot low to the keeper’s right and make it 1-0 East Coast equalised with a scrappy goal when Lurgan failed to clear the ball. Lurgan had another good chance through on goal but failed to convert it and the first half finished 1-1. Jack O’Brien had a brilliant shot at the start of the second half, from well outside the area. Unfortunately it cleared the bar. Lurgan were struggling and East Coast made it 2-1 but Lurgan fought back. Caolan Ritchie ran onto a through ball down the left wing, cut back inside and hit a very good shot from well out to the far post. The keeper pushed the ball out and Adam Banks pounced to finish very well high into the net, to make it 2-2.
The game got scrappy as Lurgan pushed for the winner to secure winning the league and their efforts were rewarded when they scored through an own goal from a corner. Lurgan sealed the win when Jack O’Brien hit a long clearance and Caolan Ritchie ran onto it and slotted coolly once again past the keeper to make it 4-2. It was a nervy last 10-15 minutes but a brilliant finish in the end. Lurgan have had a brilliant set of results since the new leagues were created part way through the season and thoroughly deserved winning their league today.. Well done to all the boys and the coaches – brilliant guys!
