U12s Into Shield Final

Our Mid Ulster U12s travelled to Havlock Park Banbridge to play Moneyslane in the semi final of the league cup shield. They had a very depleted side with only 9 available for selection with 4 boys still on holidays. Town started of the better of the 2 and had numerous great chances in the 1st 10 minutes. Theh hit the bar, hit the post and the keeper also pulled off 4 cracking saves. As the half went on Moneyslane came into the game more and got a lucky 1st goal when a mistake in the Town defence gifted them a goal.

The 2nd half started same as the first. Town had chance after chance and finally got the breakthrough when Oisin Kennedy scored a free from all of 25 yards. Oisin was playing his first game at center back today. He stopped every attack along with fellow defenders Russell and Adamson, he also made the game flow and look easy! Everytime he got the ball he tried to play it out from the back which gave us coaches a few scares as we’ve never seen that before from our side.

Hibble in nets done everything asked of him and was excellent all game. The midfielders Nelson, Ward and Mallon worked tirelessly for the duration of the game, passed well and fought for every ball. Up front Matthews and Bradbury were a constant threat to Moneyslane and created loads of chances fir their teammates.

Town took the lead when Russell took a shot from the side line, the ball flew into top corner off the underside of the crossbar. Ward rounded off the scoring when he chipped the keeper with a free kick from just outside the area. Bradbury hit both posts with a stunning volley in the last minute and Town held out to win 3-1.

Every player should take credit for today’s performance with man of the match going to Oisin Kennedy who was immense through out. We have a final to look forward to now on Saturday 21st April at Lurgan Arena. Both coaches are extremely proud of these boys and would thank the parents for the support today.
