10 Star Performance

2nd team 1718Town Reserves travelled to Cheney Park to take on Banbridge Rangers and came away with a resounding victory. Town continued their form of last week with a quick start and scored early through Jack Evans finishing off at the back post. Evans bagged his second with a confident left foot finish after being put through one on one with the keeper.

The passing in midfield from Gray, Trainor and Glenn was the best the team have produced this season so far, and Lindsay smashed home the third from the edge of the box to cap a great move. The fourth followed soon after when Gray smashed home a stunning finish from the edge of the area after 20 minutes.

Banbridge were shellshocked by the start that Town had made but they picked themselves up and started to compete, restricting chances and getting the ball forward themselves for the next 15 minutes. Just when it looked like the half would fizzle out after that blistering opening twenty minutes, Town got the fifth when Matt Irvine slotted home from inside the box. The big striker grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and got his second 5 minutes later, holding off the defender and smashing home a volley from 18 yards. Just before the half time whistle he completed his hat trick by slotting home a penalty. Half time 0-7.

The second half had much less goal mouth action than the first as Banbridge changed formation and went direct with service to their strikers. Carson and Parkes dealt well with the long ball and Town played some nice possession football.

Town got their eighth when Aaron Greenaway danced through and rounded the keeper. The ninth soon followed as Andy McIvor picked the ball up and left two defenders in his wake with a step over and a nutmeg, slotting past the keeper. The scoring was competed when Jack Evans completed his hat trick, his second of the year and both at this pitch, by curling into the top corner for Towns tenth.

A great performance from the team who have started 2018 like a house on fire. Next week the team face a massive challenge away to Coagh in the cup.
