Lurgan Town U13s played Glendowen at Ballymacoss in the Lisburn League on Saturday morning & came away with a 4-1 win, keeping there unbeaten league run going to 10 games.
Lurgan started brightly knocking the ball about with ease & looked really comfortable in position. In that 10 minute period Town had 2 half chances with Towe & Alexander going close with shots from the edge of the box. On 12 mins Lurgan did open the scoring when Stringer let fly with a shot from 25 yards that was blocked on the edge of the 6 yard box but the rebound fell to Murphy on the edge of the 18 yard box & with one touch he steadied himself & fired a shot into the top right corner of the net a great goal for his 11th of the season.
With Town 1-0 up they were soon on the attack again when Stringer broke down the right & sent a low cross in for Emerson to tuck away for his 10th goal of the season. Town were now in cruise control and there was no let up as they kept a dogged Glendowen team to a few counter attacks. It was nearly 3-0 just before half time when left back Moore put the impressive Orr on a mazie run down the left wing beating 3 Glendowen player before whipping in a great cross that saw Murphy’s first time shot just go over the bar. That was it for the 1st half with town 2-0 up at the break .
The 2nd half started with Glendowen pushing forward & putting pressure on the Town defence but with the defence of Cassells, Suchonski, Browne & Moore that have been in very impressive form this season only conceding 8 goals so far they stood solid again denying Glendowen. It was Town who got their 3rd goal 10 mins in when Towe & Stringer played a one two on the edge of the Glendowen box that saw Towe in on goal & with a cool head he slotted the ball into the bottom right corner passed the keeper for his 9th goal of the season.
3-0 up was soon 4 when Alexander found Moore with a pin point cross from the left & with superb control & a drop of the shoulder which sent the defender one way Moore stepped inside & riffled in a cracking shot with his left foot into the bottom right corner of the Glendowen net. In the last 10 mins of the match Glendowen came more into it. Their 1st shot of the game was pushed onto the bar by Town keeper Calvert & out for a corner but the resulting corner was only half cleared & a Glendowen striker hit a drive into the roof of the net making the score 4-1.
With minutes left Town should have made it 5-1 in the move of the match that saw 12 passes from their own keeper to Stringer who cut in a long the bye line & squared for stokes in front of goal but he miss hit his shot when it looked easier to score. That was the last kick of the game & Town came away with another 3 pts. Hats off to the boys for another superb team performance.
