Town Reserves were finally back in league action against Richill at the Arena after over a month without a game in that competition. A tough game was expected given the matches between the sides 2 seasons ago, and that’s exactly what transpired. Opening exchanges were relatively even, with both teams playing good football, with the ball on the deck.
Clear cut chances were hard to come by but Houston and Evans were getting a lot of joy down the flanks without getting that little bit of luck with the final ball. As half time approached however, a ball from the left found Andy McIvor on the edge of the area and he beat his marker and drove across the keeper to open the scoring. Half time 1-0 to the home side.
Richill started the second half by going a little more direct and it started to pay off for them. They used the counter attack well and forced the chance to go level from a quick break which ended up with a free kick on the edge of the box. From that delivery some sloppy defending resulted in a tug on their striker and the resulting penalty was despatched past the unlucky Boyce.
Town continued to press but the visitors were still dangerous on the break and there were chances at both ends, Scorah, Johnson and McMahon going close with shots from outside the box for Town, and Boyce pulling off a stunning save to deny Richill.
Town got their noses in front when a ball into the box was headed back across goal cleverly by Alex Woods and Irvine slotted into the net for a well worked goal, the kind of play in the final third that was, uncharacteristically, missing from Towns play.
With 7 minutes left Town should have been able to see the game out but Richill pushed men forward and got their reward. They slotted home an equaliser after a scramble in the box to share the points, but it was a sloppy goal to give away with some inexplicable defending in the build up.
Town remain undefeated in the league but should be disappointed at losing a lead at home so late in the game. Credit to Richill however, another very tight game between the sides.
