The U19s played Craigavon City on Saturday in a top of the table clash at the Arena. Lurgan went into the game without key players Aaron Winters and Ryan Upton.
Lurgan could have been one down after thirty seconds when the defence were opened up which allowed a Craigavon striker through on goal but Adam Craig made an outstanding save. However from the resulting corner Lurgan didn’t clear the ball as it fell to a Craigavon striker to score. The first 20 minutes of the game was in fact poor from Lurgan as there was a lack of passion in their performance plus passing was very sloppy. Then the last 25 minutes of the half Lurgan dominated with Andrew McIvor and Jack Evans going very close on a few occasions. Lurgan did get a deserved equaliser when Odhran Crozier showed tenacity down the right wing to get the ball to Andy McIvor who in turn laid it of to Callum Watkins on the edge of the box and he scored with a great finish. Lurgan continued to control the half but had to settle for ending the half all square.
The second half was very much Craigavon in control as Lurgan lost their dominance. Even though Craigavon were controlling they weren’t creating clear cut chances however on the few occasions they did Adam Craig was there to prevent them taking the lead. Lurgan almost took the lead when a first time shot from Jack Evans was saved and then Mark Boyd had the chance to hit a first time volley but decided to take down to hit, unfortunately his shot was blocked. Lurgan were it with a cruel blow in the last 2 minutes when poor marking let Craigavon score the winner. Player of the game for Lurgan was Callum Watkins for his work rate and excellent finish.
