Lurgan Town U13s played Hillsborough Boys on Saturday morning at the Barbour Playing Fields in a top of the table clash & it was the Town boys who came away with an impressive 3 – 1 win to stretch there 100% record in the league to 8 wins out of 8.
The game started pretty even with both teams cancelling each other out but it was Hillsborough who had the 1st chance of the game when a long ball over the top caught the Town defence napping. The Hillsborough striker was out pacing Town’s centre backs Ethan Browne & Patryk Suchonski & just as he was about to shoot a last ditch tackle by Patryk Suchonski took the ball from his feet & Ethan Browne cleared the loose ball to safety. A great recovery & teamwork by the two lads to prevent a certain goal.
That was the wake up the Town boys needed with the midfield of Andrew Orr, Adhamh Towe, Jamie Stringer & Dylan Alexander starting to dominate play. Their short interactive passing game was starting to make chances now & Adhamh Towe & Dylan Emerson both had good shots saved. It was the influential Towe who scored the 1st goal on 25 mins when he went on a ‘mazie; run from midfield, beat 2 Hillsborough defender’s, played a one-two with Shea Murphy on the edge of the box & fired a great shot into the bottom left corner of the net to make the score 1-0 to the Town.
Hillsborough never really tested Town’s keeper Diarmuid Whitmarsh in the 1st half & with the defence of Krisy Cassells, captain Patryk Suchonski, Ethan Browne & Conan Moore they looked really solid. The 1st half came to an end with another Town attack when Conan Moore released Andrew Orr down the left wing & his cross found Shea Murphy just inside the box but his well hit 1st time shot just flew inches over the bar.
The 2nd half started a bit more open with both teams having a few long range shots but didn’t trouble either keeper much. With Jack Calvert coming on for Diarmuid Whitmarsh in nets at the start of the 2nd half he was soon in on the action when he came rushing off his line to clear the ball just before the Hillsborough striker got to it. Then it was Town’s turn to go on the attack when Krisy Cassells played a lovely pass to Dylan Alexander on the right who in turn slipped a great through ball to Shea Murphy who fired his shot just wide across the face of the Hillsborough goal.
Town’s 2nd goal came 10 mins into the 2nd half when another great move was started by the ever improving Conan Moore at left back by playing a double one two with Andrew Orr & Jamie Stringer & then winging over a superb cross that was half cleared to the feet of Dylan Alexander on the edge of the Hillsborough box & with 1 touch he steadied himself & fired a great shot into the bottom right corner or the Hillsborough net making it 2-0 to the Lurgan lads.
Within a minute of the game restarting Hillsborough were back in it when a long ball out of their defence caught 2 Town defender’s leaving the ball for each other. With either player dealing with it, it let a Hillsborough striker in on goal & he calmly slotted home to make it 2-1 giving Jack Calvert no chance in the Town nets.
Town then made a couple of subs bringing on Luke Vennard & Jamie Stokes to freshen things up. The Town defence held strong for the next 5 minutes to weather the Hillsborough push & with 15 minutes to go they added their 3rd goal of the game when Dylan Alexander’s long throw in was flicked on by Shea Murphy and the ball fell kindly to the feet of Conan Moore at the penalty spot & he made no mistake with his right footed shot low into the bottom right corner of the net making it 3-1 to the Town boys.
To be fair to a dogged Hillsborough team they never gave up & Town’s keeper Jack Calvert had to make 2 fantastic saves with his feet in the last 5 minutes when he came rushing of his line on both occasions to save well from an on rushing striker. But it was the Lurgan lads that nearly scored again in the dying seconds of the game when a long ball down the right from Jamie Stringer found Jamie Stokes in on goal but he hit his shot straight at the Hillsborough keeper. That’s how the match finished with Town winning their 8th lisburn league game in a row by 3 goals to 1. Well done lads another great win .
