Classy Dungannon Too Good For Town

Lurgan Town Lisburn League U13s played Dungannon Youth at the Arena in the NIBFA Cup on Saturday morning & went down to their 1st defeat of the season by 7 goals to 2. Town knew they were in for a tough match playing one of the top teams in the National League.

The game started pretty even with a couple of half chances from both teams but the deadlock was broken on 10 mins when a poor goal kick from Town’s keeper fell to a Dungannon forward and he made no mistake. It was 2-0 just 5 minutes later. Town nearly got one back when a Dylan Alexander corner caused a scramble in the box only for the keeper & a defender to block shots from Adhamh Towe & Shea Murphy.

Town did get one back minutes later when great pressure from Dylan Emerson and Shea Murphy from a Dungannon goal kick caused a mistake from a defender to let Dylan Emerson in to slot the ball home from 8 yards out. Dungannon put Town under pressure from the restart but Town were having their best spell in the game. They were holding firm until a sloppy challenge from a Town defender in the box gave away a penalty which was slotted home to make the score 3-1. With two minutes of the 1st half remaining Dungannon added a 4th goal & the 1st half ended with Town trailing 4-1.

The 2nd half started with Town pushing forward & had a couple of long range shots from Jamie Stringer & Andrew Orr. It was Dungannon who scored again with the goal of the game a 25 yard shot into the top corner of the net. Town nearly got their 2nd goal of the game when Jamie Stokes played a good ball into the box only for Jamie Stringer’s shot to be saved by the keeper. Dungannon added their 6th goal from a corner before town got their 2nd goal. It was a super pass from Ethan Browne out of defence that set Jamie Stringer off on a mazie run. He played a one-two with Conan Moore & fired a shot into the bottom left corner of the net to make it 6-2. Dungannon added the final goal of the game with a couple of mins left on the clock to make the final score 7-2.

Hats off to the Town boys for fighting right to the end of the match. They just came up against a classy Dungannon youth team on the day.
