Town Reserves took on top of the table Ballyoran at the Arena on Saturday. The first half was a scrappy affair as both teams struggled to assert themselves. There were few chances for either side with both keepers untroubled until about the 40 minute mark. At this stage Town started to get some joy down the the left hand side with Winters going close and Jack Evans having a great volley disallowed. Half time 0-0.
The second half was a much better showing from Lurgan Town, the back four and midfield three won their battles, and more importantly got their passing game going. Chances started to come for Town, with Alex Woods starting to thread balls in behind the Ballyoran back line, and Winters and Irvine looking dangerous.
The opening goal came when Town won a free kick 25 yards from goal, and who else but top scorer Matt Irvine curled it home. The second came from Aaron Winters, fresh from getting the winner for the U-19s that morning, with a confident finish following up a loose ball in the box.
Town closed the game out well and kept the discipline as Ballyoran tried to force their way back into the game.
