Lurgan Town Girls U15 girls picked up another 2 wins on Friday night to make it six from their last six. First up for the girls was Banbridge Rangers. Lurgan have been growing with confidence each week and it showed in this game. The defence of Chloe Stewart, Amy Barton and Ellie Beattie and keeper Jessica Pugh dealt with any potential attacking threat by Banbridge. The midfield unit of Ellie McBride, Jessica Greenlee, Kelly Patterson and Rebecca Wilson were showing great work rate and attack with belief and intent. It was Rebecca Wilson who broke the deadlock with the first goal of the game as she reacted to a pass from Alex McILwaine. Rebecca was tormenting Banbridge Rangers with her pace and skill. Lurgan got a second soon after with top scorer Alex McILwaine tapping in from close range. Banbridge got a goal back but Lurgan seen out the game to win 2-1.
The second game was against another Banbridge team but this time it was the Town. Lurgan scored after 30 seconds when Jessica Greenlee scored high into the net. The goals flowed with Rebecca Wilson scoring 2 and bringing her total to 9 in 2 weeks. Alex McILwaine also scored 2 to make her the current top scorer with 12 goals for the U15s. Goals also came from Amy Barton, Chloe Stewart and Ellie McBride.
The U13s played Mid Ulster Ladies U13s on Saturday afternoon and picked up a 5-2 win thanks to a hattrick of goals from Alex McILwaine and 2 goals from Maeve McConaghy to give her 4 in 2 games. Maeve’s second was a super finish. There were chances for Katie Gilmore and Amy Gilmore but the Mid Ulster keeper made good saves. Katie Gilmore was in good form with her team play and assists. The defence that included Nicole Owens, Chloe Stewart, Blathnaid Duffy, Kaitlyn Irwin and Ellie Beattie were excellent despite conceding 2 second half goals. A special mention for Ellie McBride who played 2 games on Friday night then a hockey match on Saturday morning followed by this game for the U13s.
