Lurgan Town LL13s kept up their 100% start to the season on Saturday morning with a 5-1 win over North End Utd. The boys were on the front foot right from the whistle with Jamie Stringer putting in a great cross from the right wing for Andrew Orr to shoot straight at the north end keeper.
It was Jamie Stringer who set up the opening goal of the game when he made another super run down the right side skipping past 2 North End players & crossing for Dylan Alexander to smash home from 6 yards out. 1 nil up the Town boys were in control & should have made it 2 just minutes later when Adhamh Towe had a great shot saved when he hit a thunderbolt from just outside the box.
North End equalised 5 minutes later when a mix up at the back leaft their striker free to score from close range. With the score now at 1-1 the Town boys had the grit between their teeth & scored 3 goals in the last 10 mins of the 1st half. The 2nd goal of the day came from a Dylan Alexander corner which was headed home by Jamie Stringer from close range. The 3rd goal was a great cross field pass from Adhamh Towe for Jamie Stokes coming in from the right who took 1 touch & fired in a great shot only for the keeper to parry it out to the advancing Dylan Alexander to score a tap in. The 4th goal was a lovely through ball down the middle from Conan Moore for Shea Murphy to out pace the North End defence & slot his shot into the roof of the net . The 1st half ended with the Town boys 4-1 up.
The 2nd half started the same way the 1st half had finished with the Town boys dominating play. Their sharp passing game was too much for North End to cope with & with the mid-field of Andrew Orr, Adhamh Towe, Jamie Stringer & Dylan Alexander the chances were building up but it wasn’t until 10 minutes from time that the boys added their 5th goal, when Luke Vennard won the ball back in the right back position, played nice pass down the right wing for Jamie Stokes to run onto & hold off the challenge of a defender, square his pass across the face of goal for Dylan Emerson to finish well at the back post.
The last action of the match came when a North End striker got in one-on-one with the Town’s in form keeper Jack Calvert only to have his well hit shot saved at the near post. That is how the match finished with the Town boys winning there 5th straight game 5 – 1 to keep them top of the Lisburn League. This was another fantastic team performance from boys as they move onto the 1st round of the Lisburn Shield next weekend.
