Lurgan Town Under 13 Colts took on Warrenpoint Colts at Havelock Park on Saturday 30th September 2017 in the Lisburn League. Warrenpoint took the lead when a shot from range took the defence by surprise and looped high into the net. Lurgan created several chances with good through balls by Joey McDonald and Daniel Graham but weren’t able to convert them. Caolan Ritchie hit an almost perfect lob but it went the wrong side of the post.
Eventually the Lurgan pressure paid off. Joey McDonald hit a ball through to Jack O’Brien. The ball reached the defender first but his clearance rebounded off a Warrenpoint defender into the net. Well deserved equaliser for Lurgan. Warrenpoint pressured Lurgan but Lurgan kept it at 1-1. Joey McDonald then hit a lovely ball through the middle which Luke Carson ran onto. Luke held off the defender brilliantly and beat the keeper to his right to make it 2-1.
Tyler Bradley then played a brilliant ball from the left to Caolan Ritchie who finished well past the keeper to his left to make it 3-1. Liam Campbell went on a fantastic run through the middle but the keeper saved well. Warrenpoint then pulled a goal back to make it 3-2. Lurgan then scored 2 more terrific goals. Liam Campbell played a super pass through to Luke Carson who again ran from not far inside the Warrenpoint half, held off the chasing defenders and finished well past the keeper’s left. Liam Campbell and the central defenders had great games but they weren’t the only good performers. Liam Campbell got a thoroughly deserved goal with a brilliant free kick from 20 yards over the wall and high to the keeper’s left. A top drawer free kick.
