The U17’s took their good form into a home clash against Banbridge Rangers. The wind was in Lurgan’s favour for the first half. After an indifferent start Lurgan began to grow into the game with breaks down both wings which nearly led to the opening goal.
The break through eventually came in the 20th minute when Jack Corrigan trapped the ball pushed it left and finished with a spectacular curve shot into the left hand corner. Jack got his second after a one-on-one with the keeper and slotting the ball home to the keepers right. The third followed swiftly from Lurgan with Niall McBride finishing from close range after a corner was driven across goal. Niall’s second followed with Bailey switching the ball from the left to the right, Jamie whipping the ball into the box and Niall stroking the ball into the net at the near post.
Changes were made at half time and Lurgan now defending against the wind. Banbridge got one back and were using the wind to their advantage to hem Lurgan into thier own half. During this onslaught Morgan broke the play and slid the ball to Niall McBride who made his way towards Banbridge’s goal when he was upended for a free kick. Niall placed the ball as the lads lined up on the edge of the box and delicately with a pass which defied his years into the danger area for Adam to slot the ball home with a neat finish.
Eoin, our keeper, got injured and was replaced with Joshua who nearly kept out a free kick from Banbridge. The sixth followed with Bailey breaking and slipping the ball to Niall who drove forward. Niall slotted the ball over the full back as Alex Wheelan out muscled the full back and finished with a driving shot. Final score Lurgan Town 6-2 Banbridge Rangers.
