The U17’s went in to Saturday’s match looking for a much needed improvement from last week. They were without their midfield stalwart Gary Judt who was down with illness. Lurgan Celtic were the opponents today.
From the off Lurgan Town were on the front foot with their flowing football and much improved movement off the ball. It wasn’t long before Matthew Maye slipped the ball to Jamie McNeil who out muscled the Celtic full back and crossed the ball for the keeper to push it out and Adam Leathem to fire a shot past the far upright from the edge of the box.
Although Celtic had little shooting opportunities they did pose questions for our defence from set pieces. The two centre backs, Morgan and Oliver, dealt with most situations but were lucky that the referee was unsighted for a blatant pelenty. Lady luck was shining today.
Town had many more half chances but the ball wouldn’t sit right for clear shots on target. The match pattern followed with Town playing nice approach play, good football but unfortunately the finishing touch could not be added. Match result 0-0.
Compared to last week the boys improved 100% and showed the commitment and attitude that us coaches know they have. Big mention to the defence from an attacking and defensive aspect and a really big shout out to Bailey, Jay, and Adam L who were superb in the middle of the park.
Well done today now let’s carry that form into next week
