Lurgan Town U11 Predators were back in league action on Friday night at a chilly People’s Park against Moira FC.
Town were dealt a blow earlier in the week with the news that goalkeeper Lewis Robinson was out of the game with a knee injury so Sam Johnston stepped up and took the gloves.
As with their opening league game Lurgan started the game on the front foot pinning Moira back in their own half with some slick link up play and neat passing backed up with some solid defensive work at the back. Town raced into the lead inside 10 mins through goals from the Crooks boys, Lewis and Dylan. However the game changed when Moira scored a cracking free kick as it seemed to rattle the Town lads and Moira equalised just before half time.
After a well needed breather and a chance to re-focus Town went on the attack knowing the next goal would be crucial. Despite wave after wave of attack and some intense pressure including a couple of disallowed goals the boys couldn’t find a way past the Moira keeper who was inspired on the night and were hit with a couple of sucker punches as Moira clinically took advantage of Lurgan chasing the game toward the end of the half.
Lurgan threw everything at their opponents as time ran out but to no avail. A frustrating night for the team as they dominated the game in terms of both possession and chances created, but it was just one of those nights when they couldn’t turn their possession into goals. A big thank you to Sam Johnston for taking the goalie gloves at short notice.
