Composed Performance By LL14s

New Badge LargeIt was a good, composed performance by the boys yesterday. A massive improvement from last week which included a first class reaction in training this week. With a severley depleted squad due to injury and holidays we found ourselves minus 6 players today and had to rely on three U13 players to make up the numbers. We would like to thank Adam and Gregory for allowing us to take the boys today, this is the perfect example of one club pulling together in the same direction.

Both teams were pretty evenly matched in the first half with both sides having chances, Town maybe coming closest on 2 occasions. The first when a ball was shifted quickly from back to front and Josh Johnston collected, using his strength to hold off 2 players and his pace to give himself a half a yard on them before pulling the trigger just dragging the ball narrowly wide of the the keepers far post. Josh then came close again soon after when turning on the ball about 20 yards out, spotting the keeper off his line his quick thinking allowed him to hammer the ball goal wards with the keeper just collecting about 6 yards out. Another couple of inches in height and the ball was in the net.

The boys are in a tougher division this year and finding the game a little more physical. They took it in their stride and matched Windmill Stars all across the pitch and with the referee allowing play to flow as much as possible it was an enjoyable game to watch with individual battles in every position.

Half time came without any breakthrough for either side. That all changed in the second half though and Windmill Stars found themselves 2-0 to the good with about 15 minutes of the second half gone, this was tough on the boys as they had really been playing well up to that point. However they didn’t let their heads go down and equalised when Joey McDonald team hit a shot from 20 yards and it took a deflection into the net. This give the boys a lift and within 5 minutes Jake Turner had equalised in what was almost a carbon copy buildup to the goal he scored the previous week. This time it was Josh Johnston who collected the ball in the middle of the park and played a wonderful ball through, Jake made a well timed run pulling away from the chasing defenders, knocked the ball to the side of the keeper and rounded him before slotting into the net with ease.

This was the Catalyst for Town to begin playing some really impressive football that Windmill Stars were finding difficult to deal with, and the boys were driving forward putting the pressure on in search for that third goal and it almost came when good work on the right allowed Kurtis White to beat his man and drive forward into the opposition box only to see his shot come bouncing back off the post. Unfortunately though Windmill found the breakthrough in a cruel twist to the game, and with the clock ticking down the boys were really up against it.

Come the final whistle and the elusive equaliser never materialised. All credit to the boys this week, every one of them stood up to be counted today and walked off the pitch at the end although disappointed at the result, could hold their heads high. Special thanks to the three 05 boys, Dairmaid Whitmarsh, Joey McDonald and Toby Haire for agreeing to come along with us today.
