Lurgan Town LLU13s played Glendowen at Ballymacoss yesterday in the opening game of the Lisburn League season & came away with a 5-0 win. The boys started the new season were they left of last season playing good passing football & dominated from start to finish.
They did miss a few great chances in the opening 20 mins. Murphy, Stokes & McKee all went close before Stringer hit the cross bar with an over head kic. It was stringer who opened the scoring 2 mins before half time when McKee’s shot was saved by the keeper only for Stringer to slot the rebound away.
We made a few subs for the start of the 2nd half giving new keeper Jack Calvert his Town debut. The boys started the 2nd half like they did the 1st & were 2-0 up within 5 mins of the restart when a great pass from Towe set Alexander away towards goal he beat one defender & set Emerson up to score. 5 mins later Alexander got his goal when Orr set him up to make it 3-0. 2 mins later the impressive Stringer got his 2nd of the game & Town’s 4th when he volleyed in from a corner.
It was all Town by this stage & the stuffing was knocked out of the stubborn Glendowen team when Murphy’s determination won him a pen when the keeper pulled him back in the box. Murphy stepped up & slotted the pen away to make it 5-0 & that’s the way it finished. A great start for boys & a superb team performance. Special mention has to go out to the rocks at the back; captain Dillon, Suchonski, Cassells, Moore, Vennard & Whitmarsh in nets.
