Lurgan Town made it 2 wins out of 2 tonight, beating Dromore Amateurs 4-1, but they made hard work of it. In front of a 100 strong crowd at Ferris Park neither team took hold of the game in the opening stages. It took until the 9th minute before a clear cut chance was made. Kyle Cousins shifted the ball to his right, but his shot went well over. On 14 minutes, the deadlock was broken when Dromore headed home from a corner kick.
Town were all over the place at this stage. Dromore were dictating the play all over the park. On 29 minutes Aaron Kidd pushed an effort around the post from the left hand side. This seemed to spark the lads into life and on 31 minutes great work down the right gave David Hamilton a chance, but it was well saved by former Town player Robert Coady. One minute later though and the score was level. Great work on the left flank from Graeme McCoy allowed him to cross it in and James Lindsay poked home from close range. Game on. On 36 minutes David Clarke headed off the post from a corner and Kyle Cousins was there to knock in the rebound to give Town an undeserved 2-1 lead at the break.
Town knew that they would have to up their game in the second period if they were to hold onto their lead. Right from the off they did just that with Johnny Stewart firing just over. 48 minutes gone and a great deep cross from Aaron Parks found Kyle Cousins but his strong header went just over. More pressure on 53 minutes lead to a corner but it came to nothing. Henry Capper replaced opening scorer Lindsay and Town continued to move forward. They were nearly caught out when a long throw was flicked on and came off the post, but after this it was all one way traffic.
On 76 minutes David Hamilton was upended in the box following a powerful run from his own half. Kyle Cousins stepped up and fired home. 3-1 to Town. Andrew Houston and Nathan Crozier replaced Graeme McCoy and David Hamilton and 4 minutes later big Cousins had his hat trick. He pushed it round the outrushing keeper and kept his nerve to slot home for 4-1 and a fine win for Town.
