On May Day bank holiday Monday Lurgan Town U12s took on Beragh Swifts at the Arena in the final of the NIBFA cup and ran out 5-0 winners. The town boys were really up for this match with added incentive because of the bad injury to their keeper Shea Murphy the weekend before at the Barcalona cup.
From the first whistle a mix up between 2 Beragh defender’s let man of the match Bobby Harvey in to score the 1st goal from close range. 1 nil up Lurgan were straight at it again putting Beragh under pressure & should have been 2 up when Jamie Stringer was put through with only the keeper to beat he rounded him & shot only to see a fantastic goal line clearance made by a last ditch Beragh defender. 10 minutes later Stringer found Andrew Orr just inside the box on the left handside with a great pass & with one touch Orr fired home to make it 3-0 at half time.
The 2nd half started pretty much like the 1st half and within 5 minutes Matthew McKee had put the Town boys 3 up. A scramble in the Beragh box ended with the ball landing at Matthew’s feet & he made no mistake with a nice finish into the bottom right corner. Beragh’s only real threat came from a couple of corners early in the 2nd half but stand in keeper Dylan Alexander & his solid defence of captain Daniel Dillon, Krisy Cassells & Patryk Suchonski dealt easily with it. The game was put bed when a cross from Jamie Stokes found the impressive Jamie Stringer who slotted home his 23rd goal of the season from close range. Dylan Emerson very nearly made it 5-0 2 minutes later when he hit a thunderbolt from just outside the box that whistled just passed the post. The match was put completely out of reach when Conan Moore found Matthew McKee 20 yards out & with a superb volley into the roof of the net he scored his 2nd of the match & the goal of the game. Well done boys NI Champions.
