Lurgan Town Under 11s entertained Oxford Sunnyside on Saturday and came away with a comfortable victory over their close neighbours.
The first half began with Lurgan dominating possession and controlling the game from the first whistle. Lurgan soon capitalized on their possession with a good opening goal from Sean McCartan with only several minutes gone. It wasn’t long before Lurgan scored again with some nice passages of play down the left hand side which seen a nice ball played across the box from Wilson to Matthews, who dropped the shoulder and side footed a neat finish into the corner of the net. As the half was approaching Mulligan was fouled as he drove with the ball toward goal. Wilson stepped up and hit a free kick that hit the roof of the net. The goal seemed to kick start Oxford Sunnyside and in quick reply they got a very well worked goal.
The second half began with Oxford Sunnyside pressing for more goals and they were unlucky not to score two quick goals only for two great point blank saves from Charlie Givans. This quick start from Oxford Sunnyside seemed to wake the Lurgan lads and some great passages of attacking play between Mulligan, Brown and Matthews were unlucky not to be converted with a goal. AS Lurgan continued to press for more goals and Oxford resolve was broken when McConville struck to give Lurgan a comfortable lead. As the game neared its ending Daire Young pooped up and grabbed the last goal of the morning.
Man of the Match for Lurgan Town was Andrew Matthews who had a great game.
Well Done to Oxford Sunnyside Coaches and Players and despite the number of players they had missing they still made competitive game of it.
