Lurgan Town Under 11s hosted Craigavon City on Saturday at the Arena and were justifiably beaten 3-2 by a new look Craigavon City.
The game started sloppy and slow from both sides and not a great deal of football was played during a scrappy opening. However, Lurgan took the lead midway through the first half with a sublime solo run and effort from the hardworking Darragh Mulligan. The lead didn’t last long as Craigavon City equalised through heir lively striker who left the Lurgan defence for dead and slotted home a neat finish.
First Half 1-1
The second half began much the same as the first with some scrappy football being played by both teams. It was Craigavon who took the lead through a long ball that the Lurgan defence and keeper couldn’t deal with and again City took the lead. Fortunately though for Lurgan they got the equalizing goal in quick reply via a mazy run from Mulligan who put the ball on a plate for Mallon to slot home. As the game progressed both teams had chances to win the game. The winner came from a corner that the Lurgan boys couldn’t deal with and unfortunately the City player struck home a beautiful volley into the net. Lurgan pushed for the equaliser but if truth be told they just weren’t good enough on the day. Some good performances to mention for Lurgan were Truesdale and Wilson who had a good game at the back, Daire Young for his relentless running, distribution and pressing of the ball and Mulligan for his work rate, goal and assist.
A Big Well Done to Craigavon City’s players, coaches and support who deserved their win. The Lurgan Town coaches and ultimately the players will learn plenty from the game and hopefully it will aid in their development.
