The U17s played Craigavon City on Saturday in the quarter final of the Lisburn Cup at the Arena. Lurgan went into the game unbeaten in the last 3 games.
Lurgan should have been one up in the first couple of minutes when Jack Evans hit over the crossbar. Then Craigavon made the game feisty with a few strong tackles plus questioning the refs decisions. Craigavon almost took the lead but Adam Craig made a superb save. The chances were falling for both sides and next up Lewis McKinley had a right foot shot cleared of the line then Jack O’Neill hit the crossbar. As the game continued both keepers were in good form and keeping the game scoreless. There were chances for Tyler Boyce, Jack Evans and Jack O’Neill but were missed. Lurgan almost took the lead when Lewis McKinley hit a twenty yard shot of the post and Aaron Winters watched his header saved by the keeper. The game was scoreless in normal time and went to extra time which Craigavon scored the winning goal after poor defending by Lurgan.
It was a tough defeat to take for Lurgan as they certainly had scoring opportunities to win the game. Lurgans player of the game went to keeper Adam Craig.
