Lurgan entertained Moira at the Arena on Saturday morning. From the first whistle Lurgan dominated the game controlling possession throughout, however they just couldn’t find the finishing touch in a busy final third, that seen Moira defend extremely well. Lurgan played the ball from the back with Mawhinney and Wilson delivering some excellent balls into the front men but unfortunately these were attacks were well dealt with by the Moira defence. Lurgan’s wide men of Mulligan and Brown were marauding up and down the wide areas but again they were being met with a staunch Moira defence.
In at half time and all was square, although Lurgan were controlling the game all to easy.
The second half kicked off with the same pressure and control but Lurgan became a little wasteful in possession and Moira looked to counter, which they did on the odd occasion only for McCambley to sweep up with relative ease. Lurgan then switched personnel and formation and the game started to open up a little, and gaps began to appear in Moira’s backline. It was only a matter of time before Moira couldn’t withstand the pressure. Some neat play in the wide areas created a half chance for on the on running Mulligan who slotted past the Moira keeper. Lurgan began to up the intensity again and they soon found the score had doubled, Mulligan on hand again to slot home. Lurgan then began to sit back and invite Moira on at their peril. From a nicely worked corner Moira got one back and it was justly deserved. Game on. The remaining ten minutes could have went either way bar for some stern defending from McCambley, who was outstanding all game. The game ended with Lurgan victorious. Best on the day were Mulligan for his relentless hard work and two goal contribution and the outstanding McCambley who is getting better with every game.
Well Done to Moira who were well organised and well drilled all morning.
