On Saturday 4th February a depleted Lurgan Town Under 11’s travelled to The People’s Park Portadown to take on Dungannon Youth. Lurgan were out fought and out muscled from the first till the last whistle. Dungannon started very aggressive and set a tempo that Town couldn’t cope with. Dungannon were first to every ball. The narrow compact pitch suited Dungannon and they capitalized on Town’s lethargic start going in in front at half time.
The second half started much the same, only Town matched Dungannon a lot better all over the pitch with Sam Truesdale leading the press with Ryan Brown and Peadar Mallon. The midfield’s hard work and high pressing resulted in a penalty being awarded that Mallon stepped up confidently and duly converted with ease. Dungannon went on to score more easy unavoidable goals which Town had no reply too. There must be a mention that Town were missing four players that would have made a significant difference.
A hard day and a hard lesson for the young boys who will no doubt bounce back and learn from this. A special mention must be made to Aodhan McConville who made a return to the squad after a few months out with a solid performance.
