The First Team hosted Dungannon Rovers this week trying to build on last weeks hard fought win over Seagoe. Dungannon started the game the brighter of the two sides with Town struggling to find any sort of rhythm to their game and giving the ball away cheaply. Town finally started to settle into the game and controlled the majority of the half after the opening ten minutes. They finally got the breakthrough when a Bill Morrow cross was controlled and poked home by John Guy at the back post. Town rode their luck the final five minutes of the half and Dungannon could have equalised only for the post to deny them.
The second half was a better showing from the Lurgan men. The passing was crisper and they worked Dungannon tirelessly throughout the half. Town should have doubled their lead early. Geoff Greenaways class ball released Matt Hollis and he was brought down by the keeper winning a penalty. He stepped up himself only to smash the bar and over. Luckily for Town this didn’t have a baring on proceedings and the lead was soon doubled when Aaron Parks released Guy and he got his shot passed the on rushing keeper to score his second in his final action of the game. Town got their third when some good play between Gray, Crozier found McMahon who’s shot was saved only for the ball to fall to Hollis who made no mistake. Town then introduced young Arron Winters who was making his first team debut. He made an immediate impact with his pace and strength getting him behind the Dungannon defence only to be brought down in the box. Unfazed by his debut he took the ball and sent the keeper the wrong way with a cool penalty to score his first senior goal. Another huge plus for Town was the return on Matthew Johnston in the final 15 minutes making his return from a long term injury.
A good day for the Lurgan men with a convincing win. Next week Town travel to Broomhedge.
