Town Reserves took on AFC Silverwood Reserves at the Arena and gave their poorest performance in some time. Town started brightly but a serious injury to the returning Jamie Weir after 5 minutes took the wind out of everyone’s sails. The first half restarted but there wasn’t much football played, with the long ball in play by both teams and chances were rare at either end. Half time 0-0.
Instructions were to get the ball down and play the passing, attacking game that had yielded great results in the past two league games but that never materialised. Silverwood had the measure of the aimless long balls that Town were producing and they were the team that got the ball down and made things happen. They took the lead as their striker finished when clean through, and a second came soon after with a fierce finish from inside the box.
The match finished with a red card for a Silverwood midfielder as he inexplicably tried to start a fight with seconds to go, too late for a numerical advantage to count for Town. A dreadful performance by the team that must be put right at training this week.
Thoughts of everyone at the club are with Jamie Weir who has sustained what looks like a terrible knee injury. Jamie is a cracking young player with bags of potential and we’re all gutted for him, get well soon Weirso.
