The 1sts hosted Tullyvallen at the Arena in their final game of 2016. Town had thrown away a 2-0 lead against Tullyvallen recently, in a game they ended up losing so were keen to lay that ghost to rest as such.
The game started frantically with both teams having early attacks, but in was Tullyvallen who settled best and had the better of the possession getting into good wide areas. Town’s defence of Dickson, Parks, Clarke, Hoey and Greenaway were equal to the task however and made sure no damage was done. Town began to get into the game and had a Clarke header disallowed for a questionable offside call. Soon though Town did take the lead when a great pass from Crozier released Darragh Gray who coolly lobbed the Vallen keeper. Town kicked on and got a second when again Crozier whipped in a fine free kick which was spilled by the keeper for Bill Morrow to tap in. Relentless at this stage Town were dominating and grabbed a superb third when David Hamilton left his man for dust and fired in a cross which Aaron Greenaway met brilliantly getting across his defender to score. The only blot on the half was conceding late in the half to given Vallen some hope. Half Time 3-1
The second half started the same with the expected onslaught from Vallen but again Town’s defence and midfield were equal to the task and stood firm. Town then should have had two clear cut penalties when Crozier and John Guy were upended in two separate incidents. This didn’t prove important as Town soon sealed the game when a Parks ball forward was flicked on by Greenaway to David Hamilton who carried the ball into the box and fired home from a tight angle. The last major incident was a Vallen penalty which the ref awarded which looked no different than the Town appeals that he turned away. However the evergreen Lee Dickson who was standing in again in goals got the slightest of finger tips to the spot kick to push it onto the post.
Another great Town performance who finish the year with back to back wins. Best on the day were David Hamilton, Jonny Hoey and Darragh Gray. We would like to thank all at the club for their support in 2016 and wish them all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
