The Reserves played Markethill in the league at home on Saturday with a much changed squad. Injury and suspension forced changes in the starting eleven and the lads started well, matching Markethill in the opening physical battles. A tight first half was edged by Town when Jamie Boyce converted a great James McNally free kick.
For the second week running Town didn’t perform in the second half. The only chances created were thwarted by two great saves from the Markethill keeper, after long range Boyce and McBride efforts, and a missed penalty. Markethill won the midfield battle and scored 2 goals to claim the three points.
This was the teams worst performance in 18 months, a massive wake up call. Much better is expected in the coming weeks with big league and cup games on the horizon.
