As usual the Lurgan Town team made an excellent start attacking from the kick-off. Sustained pressure saw Jesse Turner crossing to Lukas Moles who rifled the ball into the back of the net for the opening score within the first few minutes. The boys were dominant and Windmill struggled to impose themselves on the game. Christopher Heasley and Jesse were both unlucky with strikes on goal. When Windmill did break through Josh Martin read the game well and was always in control in defence. From Josh’s throw in Lukas pushed forward to feed Jesse whose cross into the area saw Windmill head into their own net under pressure for 2-0. Matthew Hughes was unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions with good efforts on target. Aaron Kerr took an excellent goal kick which sailed well up the pitch to William Bleaks who was unfortunate not to score with a firm shot. However Matthew collected the ball on the rebound and scored with a volley from long range for 3-0. Lurgan continued to dominate the game and excellent work on the wing by Darrach Woods allowed him to find Jesse who shot and scored for 4-0 on half time.
Windmill came out in the second half playing more determined football but Lurgan continued to push forward and were rarely threatened. Calum Carson and Aaron just missed getting onto the score sheet with long range shots. Matthew continued his run of excellent corner taking, his cross causing confusion in the defence with Lukas pouncing to score his second for 5-0. A cross from Jesse allowed Christopher to shoot – the Windmill keeper punched clear with Lukas seizing this opportunity to volley into the bottom corner for 6-0 and his hat trick! Conan McCafferty was rarely troubled in goal but was always ready to repel any efforts on target. Lurgan Town didn’t hold back and sustained pressure saw Christopher slide a pass through to William who was unfortunately called offside with only the keeper to beat. As the match drew into its final minutes Windmill forced a free kick and from the scramble in the area Daryl Houston prevented a certain goal at the expense of a corner. From the restart a firmly struck cross saw Windmill score with a crisp header just on the stroke of full time. Full time score: 6-1.
Another confident, slick performance from Lurgan Town, they can now look forward to the Semi Final.
