Lurgan Town U11 Lisburn League team progressed to the second round of the Lisburn Shield after a very comfortable win over Lisburn Distillery. Throughout the game the passing, movement, commitment and attitude of the boys was a credit to both themselves and their coaches. Lurgan Town quickly opened the scoring with Jesse Turner’s quick feet and eye for goal putting Town 2 up within 6 minutes. In defence Josh Martin played his usual solid game neutralising threats and quickly bringing the midfield back into play.
Lurgan Town’s all round play was excellent, with accurate passing and intelligent play meaning that all too often Distillery were chasing shadows. Everyone played their part and Jesse added 2 more, the pick being a superb turn and volley into the top corner. On the wing Darragh Woods was busy and was rewarded with an excellent goal. Darryl Houston saw a fierce shot well saved before William Bleaks turn and shot gave Lurgan a 6:0 lead. Distillery were guilty of allowing Lurgan to play their natural game and looked unlikely to score, but score they did after an unfortunate defensive mix up.
After half time Josh replaced Aaron Kerr in goal and Lurgan Town pressure quickly produced a second goal for William and he added to this after good interplay with his midfield a few minutes later. A short corner for Town produced a fierce shot by Aaron which hit the bar. Matthew Hughes had a shot just over from a free kick while a turn and shot by Lukas Moles came off the post. Our midfield were dominant and Darryl’s well judged pass sent Matthew clear to score. Some hesitant Distillery defending allowed Christopher Heasley to score with a well struck shot into the bottom corner. Callum Carson was busy all day and was unlucky not to score with a firm header just before the end. Town never stopped running and Matthew’s clever turn and shot concluded the scoring for the day. A superb all round display finishing 11:1 to Lurgan and the boys should be proud of themselves.
