Lurgan Town U14 started their National League campaign on Saturday at the Arena and came away with a superb win. The visitors were an excellent Windmill Stars side. Lurgan started well and took the lead after 10 minutes. Good work down the right allowed Rhys Emerson to let in Nathan Bell to slide the ball cooly past the windmill keeper. Windmill responded well and were 2-1 up within ten minutes with two very good strikes. Town needed to respond and eventually got their reward right on half time when Ross Hawthorne’s free kick evaded everyone to find the back of the net.
Town were encouraged to up the ante in the second half and to be fair they responded superbly. The back line of Patience, McKeown and Anderson were solid allowing the midfield to push and probe constantly. There were several good chances but Town eventually took the lead. Rhys Emerson was fouled in the box and Ross Hawthorne fired home the resulting penalty. Shortly after a great break away allowed Jamie Gillis to score a fine goal and finish the contest.
A fantastic performance from the boys and it would be difficult to single anyone out as they put in an impressive amount of work rate. Final score Lurgan 4 Windmill 2.
