Crewe FC was the venue for the South 2 Divisional cup as Lurgan Town ladies took on Killyleagh. After securing the league last week the girls where determined to secure the double at the first time of asking. Early possession fell to Town as they played into a strong wind and some early pressure from winger Debbie Douglas was causing the Killyleagh all sorts of trouble. It took 12 minutes for Town to break the deadlock as Dani Creaney beat the offside trap and fired in. Trudi added a second on 20 minutes and Dani got her second two minutes later. Killyleagh never gave up and struck the upright twice as they began to work the Town defence and with two minutes remaining they got their reward as their striker smashed the ball into the net from inside the box. Half time score Killyleagh 1 Lurgan Town 3.
The second half began with Town playing with the strong wind behind them again it was Town on the offensive but a high line from Killyleagh and some good defending kept the ladies at bay. With 10 minutes on the clock Caz Laird and Ciara Lynn made way for Fiona Welshman and Caroline O’Hare. It took until the 66th minute for the next goal at Trudi stepped in showing her class and making the score 4-1 to Town. Five minutes later and she completed her hat trick. Town where forced into another change as captain Tracy Orr took a knock and was replaced by top scorer Kerry Taggart. The impact was immediate as Kerry got on the end of a through ball from Fiona to round the keeper and slot in number 6. With only five minutes left on the clock Tina Brush scored a trademark goal smashing the ball high into the net and Dani completed her hat trick with only two minutes remaining…

Manager Davy Welshman “Tonight the girls secured the double and deserve all the credit for what has been a tremendous first season. Again tonight we made big changes to the starting the line up. We had the strongest bench I’ve seen this season with Kerry and Steph Potts hitting over 50 goals between them and and in Fiona, Louise Kelly Lauren Thompson and Caroline O’Hare four top players who have played all season. With a squad of 17 to pick from myself and Davy Hodgen picked two sides for two finals and the girls on and off the pitch gave their all for the shirt yet again. We now look froward to the Mid Ulster Cup Final which will be our final game of the season”.
