Lurgan Ladies secured their first ever final tonight as they defeated Dromara Village ladies at the Bellsbridge in the semi final of the South 2 divisional cup. A good crowd on the away line saw the ladies carry on where left off last week in their league game against Dromara with striker Kerry Taggart almost making the breakthrough on 23 seconds. Kerry had a fruitful evening chipping in with a hat trick as did Steph Potts and Dani Creaney went one better scoring 4. Skipper Tracy Orr also scored and the unfortunate hosts also scored two own goals to bring the final score Dromara Village 0 Lurgan Town ladies 13.
Manager Davy Welshman “I am absolutely delighted for everyone connected with the club as the ladies have reached their first final at the first time of asking. From the first game they have given myself and Davy Hodgen 100% training twice a week and also attending the gym together ensuring they were at the top of their game for their first season together. We now can look forward to a cup final at the end of August against Killyleagh who defeated PSNI in the other semi final. We now have a break for a few days then we head to Crossgar to face Kilmore Rec Ladies on Monday, knowing a win will secure the South 2 league title. This will be another big night for the club as we look to bring home the first silverware of the season”.
