Match night 8 saw Dromara Ladies visit The Arena. After an indifferent display against Killyleagh in the last game the Lurgan left the changing rooms knowing a win and a better performance was needed to maintain their grip on top spot in South 2. Kerry Taggart opened the scoring after 48 seconds and Lauren Gibson made in 2-0 with still only 3 minutes on the clock. Kerry added another two on 12 and 14 minutes as the girls pinned the visitors deep into their own half. Further goals from Louise Kelly Dede Brady and Trudi Harbinson and another from Kerry Taggary made the half time score Lurgan Ladies 8 Dromara 0.
The second half began in the same fashion and it was Kerry who got her 5th on 52 mins quickly followed by Steph Potts on 53 mins. Ciara Lynn scored the last goal of the game as the girls ran out 11-0 winners..
Manager Davy Welshman “Tonight the girls put the poor performance against Killyleagh behind them as they went at Dromara from the first whistle scoring our fastest goal of the season after only 48 seconds. Dromara came into the game on the back of two wins and a draw but the girls killed the game early by some great free flowing football which the visitors couldn’t answer. We now have the chance to lift the league title away to Kilmore Rec on 1st August after other results going our way tonight. We now turn our attention to cup football as we play championship Portadown in the quarter final of the Mid Ulster Cup on Mon at The Arena with a 730 kick off. Then we are away to Dromara on Wednesday in the semi final of the league cup. A busy week ahead but one the whole squad is looking forward to”.
