Last night it was 1st v 2nd as Lurgan Town Ladies entertained the PSNI Ladies in match night five at The Arena. Lurgan came out quickest and after only 8 mins Steph Potts scored the first of her four goals. 8 minutes later and Kerry Taggart doubled the home sides lead. The Steph/ Kerry double act continued as they both scored again to make the half time score Lurgan Town Ladies 4 PSNI 0.
With the sun now on their backs the ladies began as they left off controlling the game and creating more chances. With 50 minutes on the clock Dani Creaney made way for Lauren Thompson which pushed Debbie Douglas up the right wing. 62 minutes and Steph rounded off her hat trick with another good finish and 8 minutes later scored her fourth to round of a great night for her and the team. Ciara Lynn replaced the hard working Lauren Gibson on 66 mins and Lisa Goodman replaced Emma Harper on 75 mins. As time began to run out Debbie Douglas took off on another of her pacey runs, she left three PSNI defenders in her wake as she smashed home Lurgans 7th and her first goal of the season to round off a wonderful night for the girls.
After the game manager Davy Welshman said “Tonight we put in our best performance of the season, the girls have really embraced the style of football myself and Davy Hodgen have been asking them to play since we started pre-season back in January. Tonight they fully deserve all the plaudits. We lost our captain and leader Tracy Orr to illness only a few hours before kick off but with a big squad Fiona Welshman stepped in and held the back line together. Lots of positives tonight and being 5 points clear at this stage of the season is testimony to the commitment and passion the girls have displayed in this their first year in the league together.”
