Plenty of Positives

On Saturday the Swifts played Tullyvallen Reserves at a sunny Lurgan Town Arena. The guys lost 4-2 after a really poor decision at a crucial stage in the game by the ref.

The Swifts had the first clear cut chance when Lewis McKinley sent Callum Watkins through 1 on 1 with the keeper.

Callum Watkins got a late consolation for Town

Unfortunately the keeper won the dual then after 5 minutes Tullyvallen winger whipped in a cross but it drifted over David Turkington into the net. Then a major call went against the young Swifts team. Lewis McKinley hit a 30 yard shot that hit the underside of the bar bouncing a yard over the line but the man in the middle was the only one that didn’t think it was in. This was an unfair for the young Swifts team and to make matters worse Tullyvallen scored goal number within seconds. The Swifts heads went down as Tullyvallen scored another 2 goals. Callum Watkins lost out on another 1 on 1. The half finished with the Swifts 4-0 down.

After a good half time team talk the Swifts came out looking to improve their own performance. Unfortunately, Callum had an unfortunate hat-trick of missed one on ones. Then Lurgan made 3 changes bringing on Luke Kerr, Kristian Cassells and Ethan Gorman. The 3 subs had an impact in the game.

However, another poor decision by the ref when he awarded the visitors a penalty but a superb save by David Turkington kept the score 4-0. Ethan Gorman took control of the midfield as he was very creative. Young Krissy Cassells almost got his first senior goal but his header was blocked on the goal line. The Swifts got a goal back when Luke Kerr tapped home from Lewis McKinley cross. Then with a couple of minutes left Ryan Blacoe setup for Callum Watkins to score. F-T 2-4

Luke Kerr scored his second in two games for Swifts

Not the result the Swifts wanted but a lot of positives from a strong second half. Players that stood out were McKinley, Gorman, Cassells and Kerr however it was Blacoe and young Mark Christie selected as MOMs.
